Is Acrylic Dangerous?

I had these curtains in my room that was entirely acrylic on one side, to block out light. The acrylic started to flake off into a fine dust, so i got rid of them, since i figured it would be bad to breathe this stuff in. Was the acrylic dust actually dangerous or did i overreact?Is Acrylic Dangerous?
