Can i paint over already dryed acrylic paint?

And how long does it take for acrylic paint to dry before i can paint over it?Acrylic painting questions? PLEASE help!?
Gel and medium can be mixed with the paint. (if it has a white tint however, it will tint your paint to a lighter value) If you are just wanting to build up a layer of texture with the medium, apply it to the canvas however much you want and whatever way you would like. Acrylics don't take very long to dry-at the most an hour. So if you don't want the paint to mix with the medium or gel, let it dry before applying paint. If you don't mind, go ahead and apply the gel then add the paint.

You can paint over dried acrylic paint, but you cannot paint acrylic over oil. When you paint over acrylic with acrylic, the bottom layer will more than likely be covered up-making it difficult to see through the new layer of paint.

To determine if the acrylic is dry, it's usually as easy as looking to see if the paint is still shiny. If not then it's probably dry. But if you want to be extra safe, wait at least 10 minutes depending on how much paint you have applied.

Painting is trial and error. Have fun!Acrylic painting questions? PLEASE help!?
I use the High Solid Gel (matte) by Golden frequently. The other poster is correct it will tint your acrylic paint since it white. I did want to mention that you can also seal some objects such as leaves, flowers, berries etc in the medium and then adhere them to your painting.

1. Take the leaves, flowers etc. Lay them on parchment paper

2. Cover in a thin coat of Gel

3. Let dry for 24 hours

4. Gently peel them up from the parchment paper and turn them over

5. Cover the other side in a coat of Gel

6. Let dry for 24 hours

7. You can then peel the items from the parchment and use them in your painting. They can be attached to already wet acrylic paint on your canvas or use additional gel to stick them on.

8. The great part is that the leaves and flowers retain their colors and shapes.
